How did you know you wanted to be an author? I was looking for unique books for my work with adults and children to facilitate the healing process in trauma and loss. In not finding the ideal books, I created stories and images with children and parents, which ultimately led to the writing of my books.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? Just write. Don’t worry about the details and perfectionism. The kinks will work themselves out over time and edits. You just need to write freely and frequently. The more you write, the easier it will become. Don’t judge yourself in the process.
Do you have any writing rituals or practices? I wake up early in the morning to do my best writing. It is quiet and peaceful, and I am most creative in those moments.
What message to you want readers to remember? A sudden death can be traumatic for a child. Talking to children about their feelings and thoughts about the death via books can be enormously comforting and healing.
