How did you know you wanted to be an author? I’ve been making up stories and poems since before I could write. Books were my closest companions in childhood. I feel so privileged to participate in this creative tradition.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? Read widely. Write weirdly.
Do you have any writing rituals or practices?I write my first drafts by hand in a Mead 5 Star 6×9 notebook with a mechanical pencil. I try to stick to a MWF mornings writing schedule. Nowadays I begin my writing sessions by pulling a few Tarot cards as prompts and spiritual support. I never workshop my drafts in a group, and only show them to critique partners one-on-one when I’m close to a final version.
What message to you want readers to remember?LGBTQ people are beloved by God and deserve equal rights in society.
