How did you know you wanted to be an author? I never really intended to become “M.J. Evans, Award-Winning author.” I just love to write and make up stories. The fact that other people, especially middle-grade readers, love my stories is so thrilling to me and I have to pinch myself to make sure it is really happening!
What is your advice for aspiring authors? Read, read, read! Especially in your chosen genre! If you want to write well, you need to study authors who are successful because they write well.
Do you have any writing rituals or practices?I have a post-it note by my computer. On it I have written five words: smell, sight, sound touch, taste. These are to remind me to include all the senses in my descriptions as often as I can!
What message to you want readers to remember?I write so that middle-grade and young adults will love to read. The messages I include in my stories have life-long implications. In “The Stone of Courage” my message is: “Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is conquering fear for the sake of doing what is right.”
How can fans get in contact with you?My readers can find my email address by going to my website: www.dancinghorsepress.com. I love getting emails from my readers and I ALWAYS write back!
