How did you know you wanted to be an author? The urge to relate a story in a realistic, convincing way was born out of my love of film. I wanted to create books that were graphic in their description, emotionally engaging, and populated by distinct and complex characters.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? Read as much of your genres of interest. Master the basics, of course, as you write, write, write. Give free rein to your imagination without critical concern until the work is complete. Then, return to your work and edit. Finally, work with a vetted, professional editor.
Do you have any writing rituals or practices? Write whether or not you are in the mood. Trust that you will see what needs to be done in your edits and rewriting.
What message to you want readers to remember? Immerse yourself in your imagination as you write. Become the characters living in the world you create. Be aware of their thoughts, feelings, and don’t forget their sensory experiences. Think of it as a “method acting” of literature.
