How did you know you wanted to be an author? I knew in high school, when everyone else complained about writing an essay. I loved the writing assignments and never had a problem reaching the minimum length.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? Always keep writing and never stop reading. Don’t be afraid to show your work and be gracious in accepting critique. We all consider our stories to be our babies and, as writers, we are often overprotective. But like true parents, we have to let our children grow. Not accepting critique or edits is like limiting our children from achieving their full potential
Do you have any writing rituals or practices? I live in a story and develop it in my mind before putting it to paper. By the time I start the writing process, I know the details of the story like a movie I’ve seen many times.
What message to you want readers to remember? Heritage is so important, honoring our ancestors and remembering their stories. So much of a culture’s unique personality is reflected in the stories and folklore that is passed down from generation to generation. We all have several cultures to honor from our parents and grandparents. Never lose your respect and appreciation for those cultures.
