How Did You Know You Wanted To Be An Author? I wrote song lyrics in my teens, and for almost 30 years, wrote corporate communications. In 1993 I decided it was time to do some of the things I'd always wanted to try. So, I enrolled in a fiction writing course at a local college. I wasn't very good of course, but I loved it, learned a lot and was encouraged to get out into the world and begin writing my first million useless words. I found that I couldn't skip writing and knew I was hooked for good.
What Is Your Advice For Aspiring Authors? New writers need to know some basics. Know your genre and topic and read it so you know what your readers will expect from you. Your early work won't be very good. That's just how it is. Keep writing, keep learning what works and doesn't, apply and write again. All work requires editing. That's just how it is. Accept feedback in silence, try it on, keep what fits, ignore the rest. Thank everyone for sharing. Maybe most importantly: DO NOT GIVE UP!
