How did you know you wanted to be an author? I’ve wanted to be a novelist since I read my first historical novel while in junior high school. I’ve always liked to make up stories.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? Write. Rewrite. Then Edit. I follow James Michener’s advice to never write a sentence linger than thirteen words.
Do you have any writing rituals or practices?I do deep research until I feel that I am living in the time and place of my story. Then I write about it.
What message to you want readers to remember?Most great accomplishments are done by ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances.
