How Did You Know You Wanted To Be An Author? I've always been fascinated by the human condition and our complicated relationships with the world and the people in it. What makes us tick, either physically or psychologically.
It was only later in life that I realized the kinds of stories I gravitated towards. For me, the past or the future are two sides of the same coin. The setting proved as important as the characters themselves. It was satisfying to explore these strange worlds, and learn how they shaped their characters.
What Is Your Advice For Aspiring Authors? It took me three years to write this book. Your first draft is a compilation of false-starts, and re-writes.
I believed I was done because it had taken me many tries to get the crux of the story down on paper, but
when my editor said, "good first draft" I was devastated, and
it became painfully apparent when no one could finish it.
After some serious self-pity, ego in check, I rolled up my sleeves and vowed to write a book.
Don't give up. Learn your craft. You'll get there, but it takes time.
