How did you know you wanted to be an author? For a number of years, I worked as a freelance director and choreographer. Around 2000, an actress from one of my shows approached me with some animation ideas. She was starting a company called Wings of Dreams Productions and wanted me to help develop her ideas. The company didn‘t stay above ground for long, but this experience paved the way for my own creative endeavors.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? I sometimes have to remind myself of what my lead character in my picture book Gollywood, Here I Come! says. Be persistent and don ‘t give up. If a young person told me he/she wanted to become a writer, I ‘d say: Get busy writing, the world is waiting for your success.
Do you have any writing rituals or practices?I guess I like too have everything in order before I can create. I’m very organized and it helps me create when I have a clean slate so to speak.
What message to you want readers to remember? I want to be a positive voice for kids. There ‘s so much negativity out in the world now so I really wanted to convey a message of being true to yourself and following your dreams.
