Author Bio: Yoginder Sharma joined the National Defence Academy in 1951. He was commissioned as an Infantry officer. He later rose to the second highest command level in the Army and retired from active duty in 1994.He commanded an Infantry Battalion during Indo-Pak War of 1971 and was seriously wounded. He lost a leg in a mine-blast and was decorated for distinguished command. He chose to stay in service and was again awarded for exceptionally distinguished command of a Brigade in Counter Insurgency operations and later the Desert Corps.
As Chief Instructor at the IMA he was instrumental in training the present generation of higher commanders of the Army. He was also an Instructor at the Defence Services Staff College and College of Defence Management.
He is an Honor Graduate of the US Army 's Ranger Course. He had served with the United Nation 's Emergency Force in GAZA in 1958-59, where he had met his Greek wife. They have two children- their son later commanded the same Unit as his Father.
