Book Title: Into the Eyes of Hungry: Growing up in the Wilds of Australia
Author Name: Leila Kulpas
Book Synopsis: Leila recounts the story of her life from three to seventeen, spent mostly on the family farm in high mountains some two hundred miles north of Sydney, and far from the nearest town. She vividly evokes the natural world, and interactions with its creatures. Home schooled, her mother rages and beats, and her father binge drinks. Hungry is a horse, and she feels safe gazing into his eyes, but, though her father and other relatives and friends are loving, she is increasingly hungry for her mother’s love. She escapes to the city at seventeen. The book is well written and has footnotes and a glossary.
