Book Title: High and Wide: When Grief and Love Collide
Author Name: Nadine Sands
Book Synopsis: High and Wide is the intimate story of grief and healing, leading up to and proceeding the earthly farewell of Nadine's husband Michael. Nadine shares the wonder of prayer and the reservoir of comfort she experiences during the ongoing grieving process, while embracing God's continual plan for her life--which, to her surprise, included opening her heart and allowing the love of another man inside. For her, the journey of grief and love is a never-ending and ever-expanding one.
Author Bio: Nadine Sands was married to Michael Sands for twenty-six years when Mike passed away due to the effects of ALS. They raised their three children in Nadine’s hometown of Maple Ridge and were blessed with one granddaughter, who was five years old when Mike died.
Nadine describes writing as a calling. Shortly after Mike’s diagnosis, she started her blog, “ALS With Courage.” It was a great way to reveal Mike’s incredible spirit and it was like therapy for her. Never in Nadine’s wildest dreams did she think it would inspire a following, but soon she was connecting with fellow caregivers and those who were in the midst of a diagnosis; and others experiencing different kinds of trials in life. The blog led to Nadine’s first book, Hold On, Let Go: Facing ALS With Courage and Hope.
As well as a two-time best-selling author and a blogger, Nadine is an education assistant and fitness instructor. She’s a rock collector, a sunset chaser and (slightly obsessed) photo-taker. She’s a cat person turned dog freak and an avid student of life, love and God. She’s a mom, stepmom, grandma, sister, daughter, auntie, cousin, niece, friend and wife (again).
Nadine lives in Maple Ridge, B.C., Canada with her husband, Chris Ryan. They enjoy spending time with family, going for walks, bike rides and eating ice cream. They both have a heart for missions and are involved in the family ministry, Project Wellness. Project Wellness focusses on drilling wells and taking care of orphans in Malawi, Africa (projectwellness.ca). It’s a division of Amazon Evangelism, the society Nadine’s parents founded. Nadine is honoured to be vice president of the society.
