How did you know you wanted to be an author? It was a knowing deep inside that I would write what rested on my heart, that it would find its own way to the surface through the pen.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? Close your eyes and clear your mind, write what you have always wanted to and don’t listen to those who present absolutes like, ‘never’ and ‘ever’.
Do you have any writing rituals or practices? Yes, I visit the outdoors often. Yoga too. Some poems are awful at first and I have to leave them for a while and return later to clean them up. Other writing spews forth and I let it flow. Sharing with others has been a growth process and letting those critiques sink in and incorporate what is true for me, is a wonderful skill to work on.
What message to you want readers to remember? Readers, challenge yourself to read all sorts of things and from all sorts of authors. There is a giant world of marketing telling you what to read, that is fine, but experiment and open your willingness to try different things too. I am currently challenging myself to read Sci-fi because I have never done so before. I love non-fiction. It makes our minds open up!
