Author Bio: Award-winning author and photographer Dr Chua Ee Kiam is fascinated with what the camera can do. Better known for his prolific work on wildlife, Dr Chua has curated eight books on biodiversity spanning from 1994 – 2016.
Dr Chua became intrigued by Chinese opera when he was invited to a performance, back in 2005. His lack of understanding of the language did not deter him. Observing behind the scenes, he was enamored by the stunning make-up and intricate, glittering costumes. He watched the stage comes alive as the orchestra harmonized the singing and gestures of the performers. As he begins to study deeper, he carefully documented more than 80 opera performances over a 12-year-period.
