How did you know you wanted to be an author?: Back in 2010, I saw a story needed to be told about the universe of brands and how they were expanding. It was at this point I decided that I was the person to write that story. My goal was to write a story that I would want to read. I knew that would be a tall task. I then pictured in my mind where I would be when I finished writing the book and who I would be with when I did. This picture gave me the clarity to know what to do and the determination to make it happen.
What is your advice for aspiring authors?: Use my picturing technique to get you focused on your dream. Then start by doing research on book writing. I found a top-notch book writing conference to help me get started. From there write a chapter of your book to help motivate you that you can do it. Then write your book proposal to know with clarity why you are writing the book. This will drive you to define purpose and process. Above all else keep your eye on achieving your dream; learn to be patient and don’t let others dissuade you. Here is a link to my TEDx on the technique I have used to help me achieve my dreams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybA7MmK7dwM&t=18s
Do you have any writing rituals or practices?: I am best at writing in the morning when I am the most refreshed. I try to find a quiet place where I can think. I then begin. I usually find that even if I am not “feeling it” initially the words will come once I begin. Try to write a little each day; it will help you stay motivated and get you closer to finishing.
What message do you want readers to remember?: The key message I want my readers to remember is that no matter how complex a topic, it can be illustrated through story or example. Stories are the way we naturally learn and what we are drawn to from natural curiosity. The more you can use them the more compelling your book will be.
