How Did You Know You Wanted To Be An Author? I always wrote in my mind, playing with sounds, meanings, word order. I was fascinated by hard-sounding words vs. soft-sounding words & funny words vs. sad ones. Sometimes I enjoyed what I'd thought up & I wrote it down to keep. I wrote song words, movie scenes, TV jokes - &nobody ever knew. At about 12, I began to show friends & make them laugh. More & more people asked me to write pieces for their events or publications. Now I write for everybody.
What Is Your Advice For Aspiring Authors? Never show your first draft to anyone, even though you're excited about it. Put it away, forget it, and then retrieve it and read it. You'll make improvements you never imagined. Then repeat the process a time or two. When you have improved everything you can think of to improve, you can have some people read it and give you their opinions. Ignore most of their comments (esp. the outrageous praise), but pay attention to anything that gets repeated by several different people. Then fix that.
