How did you know you wanted to be an author? Over my extensive career, I have spent countless hours penning copy for the multitude of Kellogg Company ‘s cereal back and side panels. After successfully retiring, I made the decision to test my writing skills at a far more elevated level. After more than a decade of extensive research and scribbling, I was more than gratified by the results of these efforts.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? Given the significant advance of digital printing, the old model maintained and controlled by publishers has drastically and dramatically shifted, as was the case in the music industry over the past two decades. My advice to aspiring authors is to remain an unwavering and resolute believer and supporter of your writing efforts. After all, if you do not chaperon or place confidence in your work, who do you think you can count on to do so?
Do you have any writing rituals or practices?Honestly, I am more of an old school type of writer as evidenced by my lack of dialogue and even contractions. Following extensive research and attendant thought, I initiate all my writing efforts by outlining a complete storyline including chapter by chapter particulars. Once accomplished, I generate a rough handwritten narrative which I severely edit multiple times prior to entering this version into my computer. Upon completing this step, I reedit several more times until I am completely satisfied with each and every chapter, paragraph and individual word.
What message to you want readers to remember? My intent on a message to my readers is to provide a historically correct and accurate glimpse into piratical life devoid of past depictions on the silver screen or television. In the majority of cases, pirates were not courageous, dashing and gallant heroes but rather cowardly and degenerate hooligans, scoundrels and criminals.
