Author Bio: Dr. A.L. Smith is the author of the critically acclaimed, Behind Closed Doors: Dana's Story and the producer of Dana's Story, which is an adaptation of the Amazon Best Selling novel. Smith is determined to use her voice as a writer and independent filmmaker to raise awareness concerning domestic human trafficking. "Dana's Story" is a fictionalized depiction of one little girl's experience as a victim of domestic human trafficking. The film also provides a glimpse into the world of international human trafficking, while examining other perils of urban living. Dr. Smith is a graduate of Grambling State University and a former member of the Lady Tigers Basketball team.....first nursing cadet from Grambling to receive commission in Army Nurse Corps and first Black Nurse Anesthesia Resident at LSU in Shreveport. She received her Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice from Texas Wesleyan University in 2012 and is a practicing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist....her doctoral research project was selected for publication in the Journal of Gastroenterology Nursing. In 2010, she traveled to Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and provided care to a countless number of victims. The experience would heavily influence her second novel Behind Closed Doors 2: Dana's Story. The book was featured on the atom Joyner Morning Show in January 2016. Dr. Smith is in the pre-production phase of a documentary depicting the story of Frierson native Lemon Howard. In 1960, Mr. Howard was wrongfully convicted for the murder of Mary Allen Booth. As a result, he was incarcerated for 42 years. Her goal is to shed light on the injustices of the criminal justice concerning African Americans.
