How did you know you wanted to be an author? Actually, I have over the years written essays and letters, many of which have been printed, but I did not consider a book until the unique circumstances surrounding my book occurred. After transcribing all those articles (only a small percentage were used in the book), I realized that everything that “everybody knows” about Colonel Mosby was simply not true and decided to do something about it.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? You must love your subject. I cannot imagine how anyone can write with power about something for which that person has no true passion.
Do you have any writing rituals or practices? I am terminally lazy and frequently during the process of creating the book, I was faced with something that was a LOT of work. However, I forced myself to do what HAD to be done. Perhaps that constitutes a ritual, I don’t know. But as my grandfather used to say, what’s worth doing is worth doing well. NEVER settle for anything but your best.
What message to you want readers to remember? This book is an attempt to correct great wrongs done to a great man. This man, when he was subjected to tragic abuse, used to say that TIME would vindicate his actions. It is my hope that perhaps that time has come and I hope that I helped bring it about.
How can fans get in contact with you? I have a blog on the website so it is possible to contact me through that or via e-mail. I also have a Facebook Page as does the book. I use my nom de plume on the website because it is easier than my married name.
